Political reporter and Mom Ronda Kaysen: Should Moms feel pressure to vote for a woman now that Hillary's won Pennsylvania's primary?

Female superdelegates are getting serious pressure to back Hillary Clinton because she's a woman, according to a story in USA Today. One superdelegate, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, worries her support for Barack Obama might cause her to lose her seat in Congress, and other superdelegates, like Barbara Boxer of California, are staying mum.

Superdelegates aren't the only women feeling the pressure. Clinton's done well with women so far and in Pennsylvania she carried 54% of female voters according to CNN. Why the strong support among women? Many say they want to see a woman in the White House.

I am a 61 year old woman living in the Northeast who voted for and has donated money to Obama’s campaign. People should vote for the candidate they admire and like and with whose positions they agree. I dislike Hillary (old style party politics, arrogance, entitlement, dishonesty) and I really like Obama. Having said that, I also think it would be a great thing to have a black in the White House (I am white, by the way)—greatly affirmative for African Americans. Obama is favored by European countries; this is important, since their attitude towards Bush is not good. Obama has captured the hearts and minds of the younger generation—also important, as they have become newly engaged in the political process. I think those factors outweigh the value of having a woman in the White House. I mean, after all, doesn’t WHO the woman is matter???

Heck no, I wouldn’t vote for her just because she’s a woman! The sex of a person has nothing to do with whether or not they would be good at or are qualified for a job, and for the record, neither does race. Personally, I’m not that excited about any of the candidates. But what sex or race they are will have no influence on who I finally decide to vote for.

I would never vote for someone simply because they are female - just as I would never vote for someone based on their race, age, or religion.

It is so ignorant to vote for a candidate only because she is a woman. It’s almost as ignorant as not voting for someone because they are black. Yes, we are ready as a society to have a woman president. Or a black president. But the WHO matters more than the WHAT. If you are going to vote based on race or sex- don’t vote. Educate yourself first on the issues and the candidates policies.

plenty of people are voting based on race and sex. you don’t think people vote for the person most like them? there are many african americans who admit they’re voting for obama because he’s black and there are probably just as many women who will vote hillary because she’s a woman. it’s just the way it is. if only those educated in politics voted, we’d have very low turnout. this is america.
