Moms sound off about What to Expect When You're Expecting.

what_to_expect.jpg

A new edition of the pregnancy bible What to Expect When You're Expecting was just released. That got Moms in the office talking about what they liked...or loathed...about the top-selling pregnancy book of
all time.

andrea.jpg"I found What to Expect kind of terrifying. I'm a hypochondriac to begin with, so knowing about all the things that could go wrong during pregnancy, even
the most obscure, just made me paranoid. Finally, my OB/GYN told me to put it down and try
meditation tapes."
dulce.jpg"I loved that book, but my husband hated it, because when I would read about a pregnancy condition I would freak out and bug him with the information. He wanted to throw the book in the trash after several of my freak-outs."
andrea.jpg"I love the whole series. I swear It's like my bible. Every time I have a question, the answer is always there. It's kind of spooky. The advice always seems so sane, and I follow pretty much everything it says because it always makes perfect sense to me."
fox.jpg "I followed the 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' diet plan—no sugar, no white flour—with my first child, and had lost 8 pounds by the time I was 20 weeks pregnant. My OB/GYN sent me to a dietician, who told me to throw the book in the trash. I did, and was
much happier."
jackieM.jpg "I am a true fan. My first time around it was a terrific resource for all sorts of unanswered questions...what to do about funny cramps, the right shoes to wear. I always skipped the chapters on what could go wrong. No fun there. But, all in all, I kept it through three pregnancies and it always proved to be a great read!"

I read that book everyday religiously while I was pregnant. It is definitely a must read for everyone’s first pregnancy. After the first baby you pretty much know what to expect and can just wing it!

I actually didn’t read that book on purpose because the less I knew about what could go wrong during the pregnancy, the better. I did, however, read “What to Expect the First Year” and that book rocks!! HUGE help because I had twins…

The birth center we used suggested we not read the What To Expect books because of the fears it can cause, as well as some of the heavy-handed “advice”. I have never opened it. Maybe next time around… There were just too many other awesome pregnancy books that supported and inspired me.

I read this book cover to cover (even all the little side notes) while I was pregnant the first time and am I glad I did! I ended up having an emergency c-section, had I not read about all the possible complications I would have been hysterical but having an idea of the whats and whys made everything much easier.

I hated that book. There were so many fears being sold and misinformation passed off as fact all it did was raise my blood pressure. I tossed it on the trash and felt much better.

i read that this new edition is completely rewritten and is much less “scary” than the previous versions of it. I saw one of the authors on the Today Show and she said that it’s much friendlier and funny and much more reassuring than before. She says she changes the book to reflect the changing attitudes and trends in pregnancy, so I’m excited to read this new one (19wks pg with #2).
