Let the Olympic Games Begin!
15,000 performers will take part in the Beijing Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony tonight--a 50-minute program of dance, martial arts, laser lights and world renowned music. And of course, the athletes.
All eyes are on China as they open the XXIX Olympic Games at the National Stadium, which will be followed by 17 days of serious competition, in which hosting country China will get their chance to boost its tainted image.
Famous film director Zhang Yimou ("House of Flying Daggers") will direct the ceremony with the help of none other than Steven Spielberg--with employees and volunteers having signed confidentiality agreements to keep details a secret. Surprisingly--or not so much--employees are reputed to have been threatened with jail sentences of up to seven years if they breach their contracts.
Nevertheless, the ceremonies are bound to be a spectacular feast for the eyes and a great opportunity for the family to see the world come together for one history-making night.
The opening ceremony airs Friday on NBC at 7:30pm est and pst.
