Pregnant on the Set!

Momlogic's Jenny: When I was pregnant, I walked out of "Ratatouille" because I worried that it was too loud for my unborn baby. Am I really the crazy one?

OK, fine. Worrying about the noise level during a family flick like "Ratatouille" is probably a little excessive. But it was right around the time that my baby started kicking and with each and every sound effect that Pixar is so renowned for, the jabs to my ribs, bladder and some other organ that I was sure would shut down made me just a wee nervous. Obviously, two hours at a movie theater isn't going to (and didn't) cause damage to my son, but what about a loud concert? Recently, rapper M.I.A., best known for her single "Paper Planes," showed off her belly bump while performing at the Diesel xXx Rock + Roll Circus in Brooklyn. Call me crazy, but in my mind, "bang bang bang" and "take your money" can't be good for a baby.

Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba are just a few other Hollywood Heavyweights (literally) who have filmed intense scenes while they were pregnant. Just last week, SNL's hilarious Amy Poehler was rapping her pregnant a** off during a Weekend Update sketch with Sarah Palin (another person who was probably pregnant during a demanding job). I was out of breath just watching her. But according to our expert, Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, I truly may be the only "sensitive" one.

Dr. Gilberg-Lenz says that being around (really) emotionally charged situations, like war or refugee camps, certainly could affect a pregnant woman. But that being on a film set or a concert is hardly "stressful" in comparison. Dr. Gilberg-Lenz goes on to say, "In terms of loudness, the vibrations may be felt by the baby, but it's more important for the mom to protect her own hearing. The baby has amniotic fluid, placenta, the uterus and the mom's abdomen protecting him or her from bouncing, noise, vibrations, etc. So sound is not a real issue."

Okay, fine. So I guess I'm just a little neurotic. Of course, that's probably worse for the baby than anything else. Great....

haha well I don’t think I ever worried about a movie being too loud…but I certainly have worried. I was 4 months pregnant with my second child and went out to enjoy a ride on a boat without really thinking twice. We bounced once kind roughly and I immediately decided I didn’t think it was safe and didn’t do it again the rest of the pregnancy!

I worked as a waitress in a retirement home, which may not sound stressful but it is, 40 hours a week, on my feet for 7-8 hours a day, and working very fast, in a very noisy kitchen until 2 weeks before my daughter was born. She turned out perfectly healthy. I think a woman knows when she is pushing her pregnant body too hard. There were a few times where I had to stop and sit down and catch my breath. Just curious, was this your first child??
